Layout before fixtures
The number of lights matters far less than where they go. We lay out the positions against the room: what the ceiling framing allows, where the furniture and work surfaces sit, which walls you want washed and which you do not, and where shadows currently fall. Evenly spaced lights across a ceiling is the default and it is rarely the best answer. We will mark the layout and walk it with you before cutting anything, because the one thing that cannot be undone cheaply is a hole in the wrong place.
Plan ceiling access and repairs
Some recessed fixtures can be installed from below, but ceiling construction, the wiring route and product requirements determine the access needed. Attic space may help; a finished floor above can make the work more involved. We review framing, insulation, access and any ceiling repairs before pricing or cutting openings.
Dimming that works
Buzzing, flickering or a poor dimming range can involve fixture drivers, controls, connections or other conditions. For a new installation, check fixture and dimmer compatibility before ordering. We discuss switching groups and desired color appearance, then check the agreed installation and controls.

Common questions
How many lights does a room need?
It depends on ceiling height, room size, the trim and beam angle, and what the room is for. A kitchen needs light on the work surfaces; a bedroom usually needs less than people expect. We will propose a layout for your actual room rather than applying a spacing rule and hoping.
Will my ceiling need patching?
That depends on the ceiling construction, fixture type and wiring route. Some fixtures can be installed from below, while other work needs additional access. We review the likely openings and identify any patching or painting responsibilities in the estimate before work starts.
Why do my LED lights flicker on the existing dimmer?
An incompatible dimmer is one possible cause, especially with older controls, but fixtures, drivers, connections and other circuit conditions may also need checking. Share the product information and describe when the problem occurs. We assess the setup before recommending replacement.

Check the space before cutting
Joists, insulation, ducts, plumbing and access can change the layout. Fixtures and separate drivers need to suit the construction and required clearances. Check the sketch against site conditions before holes are made.
Choose a comfortable result
Spacing, beam angle, glare and dimming affect the finished room. Confirm color appearance and trim style, then check driver and dimmer compatibility. Identify wiring access and ceiling repairs in the proposal.
