Santa Clarita is the newest housing stock in our service area by a wide margin, and it shows in what people call about. Knob-and-tube and cloth wiring are essentially absent. Panels are generally 200 amp already. What we get instead is capacity being spent rather than added: a second EV charger, a pool heater, a casita or ADU conversion, a home office that needs dedicated circuits. Permits and utilities here
The City of Santa Clarita permits Valencia, Saugus, Newhall and Canyon Country; Castaic, Stevenson Ranch and the surrounding unincorporated areas go through Los Angeles County. Southern California Edison is the utility throughout. If your property is in an HOA — and a great many here are — architectural approval often runs in parallel with the permit, and it is usually the slower of the two.

My panel is already 200 amp. Can I add a second EV charger?
Often yes, but not automatically. Two chargers, a pool heater and electric cooking can exceed what a 200-amp service supports on a load calculation even though nothing is obviously wrong. The usual answer is not a bigger service — it is a load management device that prevents both chargers drawing at full rate simultaneously. That is cheaper than a service upgrade and satisfies the calculation.
Do you handle ADU electrical in Santa Clarita?
Yes. The electrical question with an ADU is whether it is fed from the existing service or gets its own, and that depends on the load calculation, the meter arrangement and what the jurisdiction requires.
