Glendale and Pasadena each operate their own building departments and their own municipal utilities — Glendale Water and Power and Pasadena Water and Power — which means a service upgrade here is an application to the city rather than to Edison, on the city's timeline. Altadena is unincorporated, so it permits through Los Angeles County and is served by Southern California Edison. Is a service upgrade in Pasadena or Glendale different from the rest of LA?
Yes, and it catches people out. Both cities own their electric utility, so the service application goes to Pasadena Water and Power or Glendale Water and Power rather than to LADWP or Edison, and each has its own process and timeline for setting or upgrading a service. The electrical work is the same; the scheduling is not. We build that into the estimate rather than discovering it halfway.
Do you take on rebuild work in Altadena?
Yes. Rebuild electrical is a different job from a remodel — it is a full rough-in to current code with an inspection sequence tied to the rest of the construction, and it needs coordinating with the general contractor's schedule rather than run independently.
