Start with the equipment you need to keep running, its electrical demand and the expected outage duration. Battery runtime depends on the system’s usable capacity, the connected loads and available recharging. Solar panels do not automatically provide outage power; the system must be designed for backup operation. A generator needs suitable capacity, fuel, safe siting and maintenance. When connected to building wiring, it also needs a suitable arrangement to prevent power feeding back into utility lines. We review the proposed loads and installation requirements before discussing a suitable electrical scope.

Does the fire hazard zone affect what you can install?
Fire-hazard designation can affect project requirements. Confirm the property’s current designation and check the proposed equipment location with the responsible building and fire authorities before finalizing the design. The applicable requirements depend on the address, equipment and scope of work. A hazard-zone map alone does not establish approval for an installation.
