Assess the connections and the affected circuits
Older solid-aluminum branch wiring calls for a careful review of connections, splices, conductor condition and the circuits involved. The condition of a few visible devices does not establish the condition of the complete installation. We assess the affected scope before proposing a repair or replacement.
Choose a suitable repair method
The CPSC’s Repairing Aluminum Wiring guide distinguishes complete copper replacement from specific permanent connection-repair approaches. A general aluminum rating on a device or connector should not be treated as proof that a complete remediation has been achieved. The proposal should identify the selected method, its application and any manufacturer training or installation requirements.
Compare remediation and rewiring
Conductor damage, circuit capacity, access and other renovation work can affect the choice. We discuss the findings and proposed extent so you can compare the options for your property. Any insurer requirements should be obtained in writing before selecting the work.

Common questions
Do I have to rewire the whole house?
That depends on the conductor condition, terminations, circuit capacity and access. A connection-remediation method may be appropriate in some installations; damaged conductors or other deficiencies may require replacement. We assess the affected system before proposing either approach.
Is the pigtailing method accepted by insurers?
The insurer decides which work and documentation it will accept. Obtain its requirements in writing, then identify the proposed repair method and documentation in the electrical scope. Electrical work does not guarantee coverage.
What about the thick aluminum cable feeding my panel?
Larger service and feeder conductors require a separate assessment from older solid-aluminum branch wiring. Conductor application, condition, terminations and the proposed work need review; one type should not be assumed to have the same repair requirements as the other.

BEFORE WE QUOTE THE WORK
Identify the conductors before choosing a repair
Different uses need different assessments
Older solid-aluminum branch circuits differ from larger aluminum conductors commonly used for services and feeders. Conductor type, terminations and condition need assessment. Any repair method must be suitable for the application and installed according to its listing and instructions.
Define the extent
Identify affected circuits, accessible connections, the selected approach, testing and finish work. Replacing a few visible devices does not establish that every connection on a circuit has been addressed.
